I was working on the runway, painting lines and touching up faded markings, watching planes land and take off all day. 10 days before this picture, I'd gotten a rejection from the only university I'd applied to for a scholarship. I hoped to start school in 3 months, but had no other way to make it happen. Somehow, things worked out. 3 months later, I was on a plane taking off from the same runway to start school. At a different university. On a full scholarship. There's always a way.
